How Should Sacrificial Meat be Distributed?
00-00-0000
Eid al-Adha is a festival where Muslims worship by sacrificing animals that meet certain conditions in a prescribed manner to draw closer to Allah and seek His pleasure. Sacrifice is both a means of social solidarity and spiritual development. Those who perform the sacrifice share the meat with themselves, their relatives, neighbors, and those in need, thereby increasing both their joy and blessings.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised dividing the sacrificial meat into three parts: one part for the needy, one for relatives, friends, and neighbors, and one for personal consumption at home. During the distribution of sacrificial meat, each of the three portions should be divided appropriately so that each recipient receives a sufficient amount for at least one meal. It's essential to ensure fair distribution, and those who are well-off have the freedom to distribute the entire sacrificial meat. Some individuals may choose to sacrifice multiple animals, allocating more meat for their household and thus sharing with more people.
Joint sacrifice, especially for large animals, is another consideration. Large animals can be sacrificed collectively by up to seven people. After the sacrifice, the meat should be divided equally among the participants by weight, rather than through informal agreements. It's not permissible to distribute meat based on mutual agreement without proper measurement. Moreover, if participants agree to entrust the sacrificial animal to one person, that person has the authority to distribute the meat as they see fit.
One of the easiest ways to distribute sacrificial meat to those in need is through charitable organizations. These organizations facilitate the distribution of meat to the needy, both domestically and internationally, allowing them to partake in the joy of the holiday. Donating to charities or giving them the authority to distribute on your behalf can be done through online platforms or by phone.
