Our Aegean Representative Office informed us of the heartbreaking news: the home of our brother, Mr. Hasan Hüseyin, and his family was completely reduced to ashes due to a fire caused by an electrical short circuit.

Like the father himself who supports his ailing wife, his 92-year-old mother, and his daughter of marriageable age on a single retirement pension we said, "Let it be a loss of property rather than a loss of life." We spoke a moment ago to offer our sympathies and consulted on what has been done and what will be done next.

A communal effort (imece) has already begun with the support of AFAD; friends and neighbors have contributed what they could. Local shopkeepers did not pressure them for payment, providing necessary materials on credit. The municipality not only cleared the burned debris and excavated the foundation but also directed their ironworkers and craftsmen to the construction site as needed, where the house is slowly starting to rise again.

We said, "You continue with the exterior, and we will join the communal effort for the interior." We have taken over the responsibility for the kitchen cabinets, doors, and other woodwork that have already been ordered.

Life is here one moment and gone the next. How easily a single spark can destroy both a massive house and the hopes of so many people living within it.

May the number of relatives, friends, and charitable souls who stand by others in times of hardship supporting them with whatever strength they have be ever-increased.
