What is Cataract?

Cataract is an eye disease caused by the clouding of the lens behind the pupil, impairing vision. Patients with cataracts often see the world as if looking through foggy glass.

How is Cataract Treated?

Surgery is the only known and effective treatment for cataracts. There's no medicinal cure. The condition is resolved through a surgery lasting approximately 10 minutes, performed under topical anesthesia using eye drops.

Why Are We Helping?

In Asia and Africa, at least half of the millions of visually impaired individuals suffer from cataracts. However, the rate of those receiving treatment among these patients is as low as 1 in every 500 individuals.

Especially in countries like Niger, Chad, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ethiopia, which are part of the Sahel region, there's an average of one doctor for every 40,000 people, leading to millions passing away without ever seeing a doctor. About 1.2% of the African population (approximately 10 million people) are visually impaired, and cataracts are a significant cause. For our brothers and sisters living in countries near the poverty line, cataract surgeries arranged by Deniz Feneri hold immense importance, providing hope for those in need.

Our association utilizes the gathered cataract donations to conduct bulk surgeries in relevant countries, enabling the opening of hundreds of eyes back to sight.
